Use cases – Technical Manual

Technical Manual

CONTEXT

A new line of sophisticated CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines had been developed by ABC Manufacturing AB, a top manufacturer of industrial machinery with headquarters in Sweden and a commercial presence throughout all of Europe. These machines were intended for precision manufacturing in a variety of industries.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is a manufacturing technique that automates the control, movement, and precision of machine tools by utilizing preprogrammed computer software embedded within the tools. CNC is widely used in the manufacturing industry to machine metal and plastic parts.

The business had made the decision to produce a thorough technical manual to serve its target market for further growth, namely West Africa and South America, in order to aid operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel in comprehending and efficiently utilizing these complex machines.

This technical manual’s main objective was to give users of ABC Manufacturing AB‘s CNC machines crucial knowledge, direction, and resources. The manual sought to ensure the equipment’s safe and effective operation, regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and overall best performance.

Both a physical copy and a digital version of the technical manual would be made available. Physical copies could be requested from ABC Manufacturing AB‘s customer service or would be included with every CNC machine purchase. Additionally, a digital PDF version would be available for simple download and printing on the business’ website.

CHALLENGE

The next major regional manufacturing trade show would take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in four months, so ABC Manufacturing AB needed to have all technical manuals prepared for the West & North African market by then. The sales team from ABC Manufacturing AB would show the new products to prospective customers at the event using the technical manuals. Distributors, as well as government agencies, were potential clients. It was necessary to have materials available in the main languages of the region’s targeted countries, namely Arabic, French, Yoruba, and Hausa. The original content was in English.

The following event in South America would be an industry conference and trade show in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 5 months. The technical manual for the new CNC machine would need to be available in Spanish and Portuguese for potential buyers at the event.

How could the translations be coordinated by ABC Manufacturing AB’s marketing team? How could marketing make sure that the product schemas and tables in the technical manuals match those in the original documents?

Could a system make it possible for the internal marketing team to oversee all aspects of the business, including hiring the translators and graphic designers (Desktop Publishing/DTP experts), commissioning the work, placing the order, checking the progress of the project, receiving the translations, managing the invoices, and keeping track of the names of the translators and DTP experts along with their rates in case they would be needed again?

OUTCOME

The Ya-Hub team was able to manage it all thanks to its all-in-one productivity platform, where translation work and graphic design, which we refer to as desktop publishing, or DTP, are fed into the platform.

As a result, the technical manual, which was now accessible in the targeted languages for the West & North African audience as well as the South American audience, provided CNC machine operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel with the information and tools required to efficiently operate and maintain the CNC machines of ABC Manufacturing AB for its clients on behalf of its distributors in the new commercial territories.

The manual’s goal was to ensure the equipment was used safely and effectively, decrease downtime, and increase customer satisfaction with ABC Manufacturing AB‘s products.

It did this by offering extensive guidance, safety information, troubleshooting help, and programming support.

This outcome was made possible by ABC Manufacturing AB‘s use of the Ya-Hub all-in-one productivity platform.
